Taking on Pronatalist Myths: Author Moms Who Get It

Melanie Holmes has a new book out titled, The Female Assumption: A Mother’s Story: Freeing Women From the View that Motherhood is a Mandate. Like author Madelyn Cain, the author of The Childless Revolution, Melanie is a mother. While not using the word pronatalism directly, Holmes discusses common pronatalist assumptions, including what I call in The Baby Matrix the Destiny, Normality and Fulfillment assumptions in particular. She stresses how pronatalist assumptions are just that – assumptions, and why it is time for paradigm shifts. Continue reading “Taking on Pronatalist Myths: Author Moms Who Get It”

Q & A with the Author of the Book, Planned UnParenthood

I recently had the pleasure of asking Planned UnParenthood author Dann Alexander a few questions about himself and his book. There are a lot of books out there now about the childfree choice, but not many address the topic from a childfree man’s perspective. In Families of Two, we get real talk from childfree guys who were interviewed, but with Planned UnParenthood, Dann is the author; he might just be the only guy who has written a book on this topic! So here’s Dann –  Continue reading “Q & A with the Author of the Book, Planned UnParenthood”

The New Book, Famous – But No Children

In author J.O. Raber’s words, Famous – But No Children “is about people who have made an important difference because they were more oriented toward making that difference than toward living the conventional life of rearing children. This is not to say that people with children have never made a difference; however, the accomplishments of many of history’s great men and women were often the consequence of their non-conventionality and their non-procreation.” Continue reading “The New Book, Famous – But No Children”

The Childfree Genre: Bring on More Interviews & Essay Collections

I was delighted to see Henriette Mantel in last Sunday’s Chicago Tribune Lifestyles section in Heidi Steven’s piece, “Childless Writers Address Choice to Forego Parenthood.”  Henriette is one  of the generous authors who donated copies of her book, No Kidding: Women Writers on Bypassing Parenthood to the 2013 winners of Childfree Man & Woman of the Year award.  Stevens closes with a great quote: Continue reading “The Childfree Genre: Bring on More Interviews & Essay Collections”
